Come and do research with us
We are a small, friendly team. If floods, rain, rivers or water for food keep you curious, you will fit right in.
What you will find here
Mentoring, not just supervision
Regular one-to-one time and honest feedback, from the first idea to the final defence.
Field days and muddy boots
Surveys on real rivers, with real communities. The data you analyse is data you helped collect.
Open science, shared credit
Code, data and papers are shared openly, and everyone who contributes is named.
Every milestone celebrated
A first figure, an accepted paper, a defended thesis: we notice, and we celebrate together.
There is a place for you
Background matters less than curiosity and care. Civil and environmental engineering, geography, meteorology, computer science: all welcome.

- 04

You join the team, with a mentor and a first dataset to explore.
Questions, answered
Something else on your mind? Just ask, we reply to every email.
Do I need programming experience?
It helps, but it is not a requirement. Python, GIS and data handling are learned on the job, with help from senior members.
Which programmes can I join through?
Undergraduate (S1), master’s (S2) and doctoral (S3) students of Universitas Gadjah Mada, and visiting students through formal agreements.
Can I propose my own topic?
Yes. The best proposals connect your interest to data or projects the lab already has, so we will shape it together.
How do I start?
Send a short email with your CV and a paragraph about the problem you want to work on. We reply to every message.
